Thanks and a big tip of the fire cap to Chief Robert Vogel of the South Lyon Fire Department. Chief Vogel will soon retire from The Washtenaw 100’s board, where he has provided invaluable service since 2016. He’ll remain a W100 member.
Chief Vogel’s connection to W100 extends back to his teens. The son of a firefighter himself, he received a W100 scholarship in 1986, later serving for 26 years with the Ann Arbor Fire Department, including as Battalion Chief. Chief Vogel has now headed South Lyon’s FD for three years. He was also president of Vogel’s Lock and Safe for 37+ years.
On W100’s board, Chief Vogel especially focused on representing our club to the county’s police and fire departments. He says, “What we do for officers and firefighters can’t be overstated, but it may not be as well known as it should be.” Chief Vogel has advocated for W100 to have a higher profile in our communities. A direct result of this is the increased public relations activity you’re now seeing from the club.
Don’t worry, though – The Washtenaw 100 will still have representation from a county fire department on our board. Stay tuned to this W100 news page to learn who Chief Vogel will soon be succeeded by.
