2016 – The Washtenaw 100 Awards College Scholarships

— THE WASHTENAW 100 AWARDS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS  —

Ann Arbor — The Washtenaw 100 is proud to announce it is awarding $20,000 in scholarships to area students throughout Washtenaw County. The Washtenaw 100 is an organization of area residents and companies whose mission is to support the families of local active law enforcement officers and firefighters who serve within Washtenaw County.

The Washtenaw 100 has maintained the scholarship program over the past thirty years and has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships. Students who apply for these scholarships are chosen based upon their demonstrated leadership, volunteer activities, scholarship, and stated future goals.

“The scholarship program is one small way that members of our organization can thank and show our support for the families of area police officers and firefighters,” said Mike Rein, Washtenaw 100 Board Chair. “The Scholarship Committee always has a very difficult job and it is especially gratifying for the Washtenaw 100 to be able to reward the hard work of these students and recognize their service to the community,” said Rein.

This year’s Washtenaw 100 Scholarship awardees (with high school and parent’s affiliation) are:

• Matthew Egeler, Ann Arbor Huron High School, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department
• Megan Harvey, Milan High School, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department
• Maddison Kemner, Manchester High School, Manchester Township Fire Department
• Tyler Kimbrell, Milan High School, Milan Fire Department
• Tyler King, Dexter High School, Northfield Township Police Department
• Thomas Pasternak, Pinckney High School, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department
• Tara Poikey, Roosevelt High School, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department
• Samantha Scherba, Hartland High School, Ann Arbor Police Department
• Storm Sexton, Onsted High School, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department
• Ryan Waryas, Milan High School, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department
