WASHTENAW ONE HUNDRED CLUB ANNOUNCES FIREFIGHTER AND POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR

Ann Arbor, MI --- The Washtenaw 100 Club is proud to announce it is honoring Ypsilanti Fire Marshall Jon Ichesco as Firefighter of the Year and Washtenaw County Sheriff's Detective John Scafasci as Police Officer of the Year.

In addition to awarding $10,000 in scholarships to families of fire and police personnel, the Washtenaw 100 annually selects individuals to honor at their annual meeting as firefighter and police officer of the year. For 2002, the Washtenaw 100 Club has selected Jon Ichesco as Firefighter of the Year. Mr. Ichesco has provided outstanding service as Fire Marshall for the City of Ypsilanti. He has performed a number of arson investigations in exemplary style. Mr. Ichesco has worked diligently with the City of Ypsilanti Building Inspection Department, Police and City Attorney to assemble strong court cases to enforce building and fire codes that jeopardized public safety. Due to Mr. Ichesco's expert testimony and vast knowledge of fire codes, numerous dangerous properties have been turned over to receivers for repair and will result in dramatic improvement in the Ypsilanti housing stock. Mr. Ichesco joined the Ypsilanti Fire Department in 1984 and has served as fire fighter, medic, driver operator and Union President. Mr. Ichesco has been married to his wife Carol for 29 years and he has two children. Selected as Police Officer of the Year was Detective John Scafasci of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.

Mr. Scafasci has worked for the Sheriff's Department since January of 1992 and is committed to doing an exemplary job by working long shifts to complete his casework in a diligent manner. Mr. Scafasci's attention to detail throughout an investigation and utilization of new equipment and technology has enabled a number of major crimes to be solved including a three-year-old homicide case that led to the arrest of the perpetrator. Mr. Scafasci takes a leadership role in his job and on crime scene investigations and relates positively to citizens allowing his to enlist their assistance beyond the norm. Mr. Scafasci's enthusiasm and dedication are great assets to the public. Mr. Scafasci is married and he and his wife, Lindsay, have 3 children. When he is not out on an investigation, you can find him in the "Big House" cheering on his favorite football team or relaxing to the soothing sounds of his boat motor.
